Starting from Lugano, you can go up by funicular, or by car to the village at monte Brè and then take a wonderful walk. The excursions are varied and for everyone, for the more experienced and for beginners.
PIGRA CABLE CAR
This little cablecar faces the Como lake and it brings you from Argegno, on the shores of the lake, up to Pigra, a small mountain village. This cable car is suited for bikers that want to do the circle bike loop from the camping to menaggio, then in the direction of the Valle intelvi, since it lets you skip the hard climb for San Fedele.
MONTE SAN SALVATORE
There are two ways to go up Monte San Salvatore: with the funicular that leaves from Paradiso (Lugano) or by foot (for those who are used to walking). At the top of the mountain, after a walk of approx. 10 minutes you reach the antenna with a 360 degree view! It is recommended to go in good weather to be able to admire the view from up there!
Easilly accessible from the centre of Como, the funicular to Brunate allows you to reach a characteristic village located on the slopes of a mountain overlooking the lake and the city of Como. From there it is easy to reach with an easy walk the "Volta Lighthouse" , an unusual monument dedicated to Alessandro Volta, a famous scientist pioneer of electricity born in the town of Como.
Monte Tamaro is a hub for many activities: once you arrive to the top with the cablecar you will find a beautiful plateau and a great view over the prealps. There are hiking routes in all directions, and mountain bikers love the downhill routes and the bike park. The mountain restaurant, the summer toboggan run, the zip wire, the large children’s playground at the upper station and the adventure high ropes park at the middle station combine to make Monte Tamaro a mountain packed with adventure.
At the southern end of Lake Lugano is the 1,701 metre high Monte Generoso. The new restaurant “Fiore di pietra” (stone flower) created by the famous architect Mario Botta stands majestically on a rugged plateau on the mountain. A cog railway has been taking visitors up to the peak of Monte Generoso for 125 years to enjoy these breathtaking views. Keen hikers can explore the mountain on more than 51km of hiking trails.
Monte Lema sits between Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore. At 1,624 metres above sea level, it towers above the Malcantone region and offers panoramic views across the valleys of Ticino and beyond. Mountain bikers relish the exhilarating trails down to the valley, while hikers enjoy taking on the Monte Lema – Monte Tamaro ridge (4 hours 30 minutes), widely regarded as the most spectacular high-altitude hike in Ticino
